What would I have done?

I read of history and of current affairs and I get frustrated.  But being frustrated, can I blame people for the actions they’ve done?  Would I have done the same thing?  As they say – but for the grace of God go I.  And yet, if they were in my shoes, would they not blame themselves for the act they committed?  So we live with the shame of what we do and what we do not do, and too often do not put ourselves in the shoes of others.  Would I feel ashamed if I were them?
